ALTER EGO

THE PAST
Music is a very important matter in Hans’ life and is something that does come naturally for this musician and producer. At the age of 14 he already visiting his first concerts. It was an Iron Maiden concert, the ticket was given to him for his 14th birthday. Since that moment he was hooked on concerts, guitars, rock and heavy-metal! From the money of his Sunday news paper route he bought his first guitar, amplifier and distortion stomp box! Shortly after that he started taking keyboard and Solfège lessons as well and his musical skills and hunger to learn kept on growing ever on

Growing up with Funk, Soul, Motown and of course the eighties music is probably the cause of his broad taste in music. His collection of vinyl’s and cd’s holds everything from classic, to Jazz to extreme sorts of metal, electronic- and World-music. Roaming flea -markets and second hand stores to gather cool vinyl is still one of his favorite things to do besides making and listening music.

Change was needed, after spending quit a bit years in and around the metal scene, playing in bands; doing vocals, guitars, bass, keys and additional programming. He also had his fingers in organizing gigs, running the local practice shelter for quit a while. Hans also did a tremendous cut of work in starting up the e-zine metallive.nl; which holds everything you need to know about the metal scene. During his quest for new music and knowledge he got bored of participating in the metal scene so he started to take part in a lot of different styles…

There isn’t really much to say about the way his hip-hop and hardcore journeys started; as an active musician in different scenes Hans is always looking for new ways to express himself and broaden his horizon. So that explains the different influences that can be heard back in his productions.

ARTIST PROFILES..::Batteraaf
The name “Batteraaf” is a different story thou, a lot of folks will think: “WTF!?! Is that a word?” Batteraaf is not a Dutch word, but one taken from a local Dutch dialect, freely translated it means so much as; “urchin” or “lout” (kwajongen). Add Beats to that, shake it, don’t stir and the trademark Batteraaf-Beats had been born. Hans doesn’t like to think in musical boxes and therefore he participates in a lot of different genres, mixing up flavors in a big stew…On his MySpace’s you can find all kinds of info on his releases, past, present and future projects!

..::Carnivore
Somewhere November 2004 a metal musician started experimenting with electronic music. Fascinated by the hypnotizing pulse of those hard distorted kicks a journey into a new underworld was started. From metal to hardcore, some might find it a huge difference, some say it isn’t. After 15 years as bass player, keyboard player, guitarist and vocalist in death- and thrash metal bands the most of the gear was exchanged for other equipment. The dark ideas never went away and found themselves a way out through Industrial hardcore.

What started as a self-expression became an addiction very soon. Loads of new stuff was tried, lots of gear and software was studied and bought, but some things remained unchanged, the raw roots, being obstinate and driven.The first achievement were five minutes of fame in the KraakPiep radio show, Xtrecist and Deester liked a track called 8bit Solitude so much that they gave it airplay, a very weird but cool feeling!

Shortly after that a Cubase session with Akira took place, which was very educative, rocking the place! Being as obstinate and driven you can make a lot of things happen and gain a lot of knowledge in a short time. It was time to start networking and that made things even speed up more, a lot of new and close friends have been made, as well on the private as on the business side.

..::Lords of Dominion
Hans Besselink took a  leap in the mainstream hardcore scene with Lords of Dominion; this is how it started. When Rob Fabrie aka the Headbanger and Hans did their first studio session for the very first co-production “Hell is Coming”, something became clear rapidly; they’re riding on the same wavelength, it was obvious right away that more stuff had to follow. After abusing Rob’s gear for that dark track that leans up against the industrial side of hardcore, they had so many ideas left that immediately was decided to pinpoint new studio time for a new Mainstream project…

Lords of Dominion was born; “Can’t stop us now” and “We don’t give a Fuck” are just a small glimpse of what’s too come. L.O.D. will be working hard on new material to rock the parties and getting’ your asses on the dance floor.

Some Industrial tracks where released on DNA Records, Megarave Records, Zero-Tolerance and Thorntree-Records.

THE FUTURE

More experimental stuff is coming up, various projects are in the active phase of song writing and recording now. What?¿ More Industrial can be expected from Carnivore, experimental minimal electro from Max Q and last but not least a bigger project in the form of a live-act/band. The live act’s name will not be announced for the time being, but the style is a crossover between IDM, darkwave and industrial metal.

Meanwhile the sound design projects, the patches and sound-packs for soundresource.eu and the backing tracks for the video edits are continuing also.
More to come ;) …where creativity goes beyond insanity
